Where does one celebrate their 30th birthday? Well, King 143 of course! No particular reason really. A friend of mine, the birthday celebrant, just managed to find this restaurant which surprisingly had bookings available only after having to desperately search for somewhere in the city at the last minute. Not an easy task seeing it was Christmas party season.
The name of the restaurant is simply its street address, King 143. It is considered to be French/Japanese cuisine. It is closely located near the State Theatre in the city. Making it very convenient for before or after show dinners. My first impression as I entered the restaurant was what a refined and classy little place and how delightful having such a welcoming smile from the maitre d ushering us to our tables. The place was very quiet, I thought, for a Saturday night. There was only our group of 7 there. There was music playing faintly in the background. It felt like I was in church and only whispered to my friends around me "Wow, its so quiet in here."This soon changed. It wasn't long for our group to start laughing out loud, talking over each other and by the end of it, having individuals posing and modelling their gifts in front of the camera.
Service was flawless. The waitresses were very polite and very professional. Everything was precise. Menus were handed to us and then offered us water as soon as we settled into our chairs. Orders were taken and complimentary bread was served. In no time, our orders landed on our table. One of our friends found his rack of lamb was a little under done for his liking and had no trouble in asking for them to take it back to the kitchen to cook it a little further.
Suddenly, everyone at the table went silent as they busily consumed their meals. Not one sign of a complaint. Everybody was satisfied. I decided to choose a lighter meal and ordered the scallops with asparagus. The dish was very simple yet absolutely delicious. Three people ordered the blackboard special Beef fillet in salt crust with Dijon mustard and potato, glazed vegetables. They were able to finish their generous sized fillet before I could finish off my scallops. That pretty much says it all.

What were the prices like? I would imagine it to be quite expensive given its location?
